How to Update Your Dodge 600 for the Modern Age in Three Easy Mods

As Dodge cars of the 1980s go, your 600 is a classic. But sedan, coupe, or convertible, although it's a pleasure to drive, it could use a few upgrades, to bring it up to the speed of the 2020s.

Here's a little advice on where to start.

1. Performance

During its career, the 600 had a choice among four engines: 2.2- and 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, a 2.2-liter turbo, and a Mitsubishi 2.6-liter inline-four. None of them were particularly powerful (the turbo, for instance, got only 142 horsepower).

You can get more out of any of them, though. Just add a turbocharger (if your engine's naturally aspirated) or upgrade a turbo to a supercharger, put in a cold air intake and performance air filter for better airflow, and mod the exhaust to relieve backpressure. You'll get richer combustion, and a few extra horses and pound-feet.

2. Interior

If you got a 1984 Dodge 600 ES with a Turbo package, it came standard with leather seating, a digital dashboard, and a four-spoke steering wheel, all now dated. Shop our seating, dash parts, and interior accessories for comparable upgrades; you'll find them for less than dealer cost.

3. Exterior

The same '84 Dodge 600 ES Turbo came standard with 15-inch aluminum wheels, ES decklid and Turbo fender badging, and functional dual vents on the hood. They're a little old-fashioned today. You can, however, update the wheels to ruggeder steel, for one, not to mention add your own emblems and put on more contemporary body parts.
