All About Mopar Cargo Mats

Hauling groceries in your Chrysler? Maybe a weekend getaway's worth of luggage in your Jeep? Having the right cargo accessories is key. One kind, cargo mats (also called cargo trays or cargo liners), are a great way to not only organize things but also make the most of your ride's storage space.

On the one hand, they contain what you're transporting and, usually thanks to compartments, make accessing it a lot easier. Secondly, they protect the trunk or cargo hold from damage caused by things like spills and baggage bumping and scraping. They can have many different features and benefits, too.

For one, diverse designs; they can be made of everything from molded plastic (high-density polyethylene or HDPE, for example) to rubber -- say, soft, collapsible, lightweight fabric, often with pockets for smaller items. Secondly, constructions spanning the gamut from rigid to flexible, often with raised edges to contain and separate gear, non-slip surfaces to grip everything and prevent it moving around, and more -- adjustable dividers, built-in handles or grips, water-resistance/waterproofing, modules for customization, you name it.

Best of all, installation is as easy as a drop into the trunk, with no need for help from a Mopar service center, though some mats offer features to secure them in place better -- hooks, straps, or fasteners, for instance. To take care of a mat, all you have to do in most cases is wipe it down in the driveway, or take it out of the car for a quick wash.
