Mopar Exhaust Systems FAQ

What Do Exhaust Systems Do for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM, and FIAT Vehicles?

They help remove toxic byproducts -- those created when vehicles' engines burn air and fuel for power. This is the case for all cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans that run at least partly on gas, from Chrysler 300 to RAM 1500.

What are the Main Parts of an Exhaust?

There are five, ranging from a catalytic (cat) converter, muffler, and resonator to an exhaust manifold and a tail pipe.

How Does an Exhaust Work?

Put simply, pollutants -- nitrogen oxide, for instance -- pass through the cat, where platinum group metals (rhodium, palladium, and platinum) split them into nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O), holding the N back and allowing the O to flow onward, burning up both hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the process. The muffler and resonator optimize airflow and limit operational noise; the exhaust manifold pushes cleaner gases (a combo of carbon dioxide and water vapor -- mostly harmless) down the exhaust pipe, whether they enter the tail pipe and flow out, dissipating.

What are the Signs of Exhaust Failure?

  • Worsening gas mileage
  • Check Engine and other dashboard warning lights
  • Unusual noises coming out of the muffler and/or exhaust pipe
  • A rotten-egg odor

They'll show up similarly, whether you drive a Jeep Wrangler SUV, a sports car like Dodge Charger, or otherwise. See any, and you should inspect the exhaust (or have a Mopar service center take care of it; replace any parts that the results recommend, and be sure to use OEM.

When Should You Change Exhaust Parts Otherwise?

Put in a new resonator and/or muffler about every 2 to 4 years. The catalytic converter, you should reinstall about every 100,000 miles.

Why Buy OEM Exhaust Parts, vs. Aftermarket?

Unlike aftermarket parts, they'll be top-quality, as only Mopar can deliver. They'll fit your ride right the first time, too. Best of all, though, they'll work better, and they won't void your factory warranty in the process.
