Mopar Spoilers FAQ
What Does a Spoiler Do?
A lot of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM drivers think they only give their rides a more stylish look. However, they can also improve its aerodynamics, helping it cut through wind resistance ("drag") and making for a smoother ride.
What's the Difference Between a Spoiler and a Wing?
Spoilers are fins on the trunks, roofs, hoods, or rear ends of cars and SUVs, and over the beds or on the roofs of the cabs of trucks. Wings are larger versions; supercars and other performance vehicles generally have them: the whale-tail ("tea tray") kind, with raised and upswept edges, or the gurney-flap (also called wickerbill) kind, with small, tabbed edges that point up further. Wings are designed to dramatically increase downforce at high speeds specifically, more than spoilers do; this adds stability, improves handling, and makes them great for cars that race on tracks.
How Do I Install an Adhesive Spoiler on My Vehicle?
It's easy. All you'll need is some paint prep (e.g., isopropyl alcohol), a couple cleaning cloths, some masking tape, a tape measure, and a silicone-based sealing caulk. Be sure to work in temps in the 70s Fahrenheit or so, for best results. Then, it's just a matter of cleaning the trunk lid, following directions from Mopar on applying tape, positioning the spoiler right, and pressing it on firmly and evenly, leaving the adhesive to set 12 hours or so.
Steps can vary; consult your owner's manual for specifics. Not sure how to go about things? A Mopar service center can help.
